At the recent Annual Meeting of the American Urological Association, we presented our findings on the efficacy of dapoxetine in the treatment of premature ejaculation (PE) in men. We first highlighted that dapoxetine was efficacious in delaying ejaculation, and that dapoxetine was a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). We further highlighted the safety and tolerability of dapoxetine, and the potential for side effects.
Our report is the first to provide an overview of dapoxetine use in the treatment of PE in men, a key area of research in the field of male sexual dysfunction (andrology). The present study was conducted in three tertiary referral centres in three different countries: India, UAE, and Bangladesh. Men who received treatment for PE for the first time and who had not previously experienced PE were included in the analysis.
The primary objective of this study was to determine the efficacy of dapoxetine in delaying ejaculation for men with PE. A total of 277 men with PE were included in the study.
We found that dapoxetine significantly improved the time to ejaculation (TTE), compared with placebo, for men with PE. The improvement in TTE and satisfaction with PE treatment was similar between dapoxetine and placebo. Dapoxetine significantly improved TTE and satisfaction with PE treatment.
